Didsbury Food Hampers program - Posted: Sun, Nov 21, 2021, 03:17 pm - By Kathleen Windsor
Every community needs people who sincerely care about others in the community, especially as the holiday season approaches. In Didsbury, those people are called Christmas Helpers, and they're led by the volunteers with Heart2U. You can be a part of the magic too!

Helping those less fortunate is a culture in Didsbury. The Didsbury Food Hampers program is now underway and includes Angel Trees, Christmas Hampers, Gift Wrapping and food sorting for the hampers.

Each year the Didsbury community gets involved in putting together food and gift hampers for those who find themselves in unfortunate situations during the Christmas season.

This year, Heart2U asks you to pick an angel from any of the Christmas trees listed here, then buy an age appropriate gift or gift card and take the unwrapped gift with the angel attached to the Post Office or ATB Financial by December 14th.

Several locations have Angel Trees: Didsbury Post Office, Didsbury Municipal Library, Ulla-la Boutique, ATB Financial, Remedy RX, Vintage Coffee Bar, Didsbury Home Hardware, Connect First Credit Union, Weatherby's Wreaths, and Fashions on Main.

Heart2U also needs non-perishable food donations. Bring them to the Zion Church between December 14th and 16th.

Christmas Hampers Lists

If you like, gather some friends together and divvy up the list so it's not too overwhelming for you alone. This is also a great gift for the community from businesses and organizations.

Cash donations are welcome and used to purchase meat vouchers and additional food. Please make cheques payable to Zion Evangelical Missionary Church (ZEMC) or Heart2U, and mark "Christmas Food Hampers" on the cheque. (Receipts will be issued at the end of the year.) These donations can be taken directly to the Zion Church at the east entrance to Didsbury.

Remember to include small items for men and women to include in family hampers, (e.g. lotions, candles, toiletries).

Due to the number of volunteers allowed in the church during this pandemic, the usual gift wrapping evening will not take place again this year.

Hampers will be packed and distributed on Saturday, December 17th and 18th.

If you or someone you know is in need, please call Zion E.M. Church at 403-335-3629 to have your/their names entered on the list to receive a hamper. Please include street address, phone number, how many adults, children's ages and sex.

Thanks for your help in the Didsbury Food Hampers Program.

It's amazing to comprehend, but in Didsbury, we usually need 150 families or individuals to sponsor the purchasing of a complete hamper. This year, unfortunately, there could very well be more, and Christmas Helpers are hoping to receive 150 sponsored hampers.

If you are interested in sponsoring, please call Ashley Edwards at 403-404-1017 or Linda Regner at 403-335-5930.
