Christmas Helpers/Hampers Lists - Posted: Fri, Nov 13, 2020, 11:01 am - By Kathleen Windsor
Every community needs people who sincerely care about others in the community, especially as the holiday season approaches. In Didsbury, those people are called Christmas Helpers. You can be a part of the magic too!

Helping those less fortunate is a culture in Didsbury. The Christmas Helpers program is now underway and includes Angel Trees, Christmas Hampers, and food sorting for the hampers.

Each year the Didsbury community, under the direction of Linda Sirr and Linda Regner, gets involved in putting together food and gift hampers for those who find themselves in unfortunate situations during the Christmas season.

This year, things will be a little different. Christmas Helpers ask you to still pick an angel from any of the Christmas trees listed above, but instead of buying a gift, they're asking people to purchase gift certificates. You will go to one of the stores mentioned below, take an Angel off the tree, buy the gift card and take both back to the store.

Several locations have Angel Trees: Didsbury Post Office, Ulla-la Boutique, ATB Financial, Didsbury Library, Vintage Coffee Bar, Mountain View Credit Union, Home Hardware, Fashions on Main, and Remedy RX.

Christmas Helpers also needs non-perishable food donations. Bring them to the Zion Church between December 16th and 18th.

Cash donations are accepted and used to purchase meat vouchers and additional food. Please make cheques payable to Zion Evangelical Missionary Church (ZEMC) and mark "Christmas Food Hampers" on the cheque. (Receipts will be issued at the end of the year.) These donations can be taken directly to the Zion Church at the east entrance to Didsbury. The Church office hours are Tuesday - Friday 9 am - 1 pm.

Remember to include small items for men and women to include in family hampers, (e.g. lotions, candles, toiletries).

Due to the number of volunteers allowed in the church during this pandemic, the usual gift wrapping evening will sadly not take place this year.

Hampers will be packed by a skeleton crew and distributed on Saturday, December 19th. When hampers are delivered to a home, it will be entirely contactless. Volunteers will make sure the person is at home so hampers can be left securely. Some recipients will prefer to pick up their hamper at the Zion Church - all you have to do is stay in your car and the hamper will be put in your trunk for you.

No one will leave their car or enter the church.

For more information, or to volunteer some time, please contact Debbie at the Zion Church (403-335-3629) or Linda Sirr at 403-607-0217, or Linda Regner at 403-335-5930.

If you or someone you know is in need, please call Zion E.M. Church at 403-335-3629 to have your/their names entered on the list to receive a hamper. Please include street address, phone number, how many adults, children's ages and sex.

Thanks for your help in the Didsbury Christmas Helper Program.

It's amazing to comprehend, but in Didsbury, we usually need 130 families or individuals to sponsor the purchasing of a complete hamper. This year, unfortunately, there could very well be more, and Christmas Helpers are hoping to receive 150 sponsored hampers.

There are 2 sizes available - one small and one large. Click here for the lists.
