|It looks like it's coming - a new skate park for Didsbury! Everything is still in the preliminary stages, but if all goes well, we could see action on the design and consultation work in the near future.|
In the approved Memorial Complex Outlying Plan, an upgrade skate park was identified and planned for 2019. Since that point in time, a society has been established by local youth and parents to fundraise and apply for grant opportunities. At the May 9th 2017 Regular Council Meeting, Council directed Administration to move forward with a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Design and Build of the Skate Park Project. This RFP was released in July with a close date of August 18th. Two companies submitted proposals.
Administration is making a recommendation to Council as to the business they believe offers the Town the most bang for their buck. This takes place at the Council meeting on Tuesday night.
$40,000 has been budgeted already for design and consultation work to begin. This work needs to be undertaken prior to a budget being realized for the actual construction of the Skate Park.
Once the contract has been awarded, the Town of Didsbury is committing to spend $39,000 in 2017 to undertake consultation and design work. In addition, this commitment follows through that the designer is also the constructor. The contract will be developed in a manner to ensure that no funds are committed prior to receiving Council approval.
Didsbury's current skateboard park is located on the southeast side of the Memorial Complex.
